As President Donald Trump was issuing orders to take over the Metropolitan DC Police Force on Monday and deploy the National Guard to the US capital, he also took the opportunity to point out continuing levels of crime in neighboring Baltimore…

   

“We have other cities that are very bad – New York has a problem. And then you have of course Baltimore and Oakland – we don’t even mention that anymore, they’re so far gone.”

State leaders including State Senate President Bill Ferguson took issue with the statement, saying Baltimore’s crime rate has actually decreased and are at their lowest in a decade…

    

“I am unbelievably frustrated. I think we all work incredibly hard here in the state of Maryland to give more families more opportunity no matter what neighborhood they are living in and what we need is partnership and not the total chaos and demeaning we have seen.”
