Drivers on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will see slightly higher toll fees beginning this week. An increase of 4% for tolls goes into effect on January 4th, the 18th consecutive year rates have been raised on the turnpike. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission uses these annual increases to fulfill requirements of laws passed in 2007 and 2013 which mandate significant contributions to PennDOT for other transportation projects, rather than solely for Turnpike maintenance. The PA Turnpike sees traffic of 500,000 or more vehicles daily.
