The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigations Unit (C3I) and the Cumberland Police Department conducted an investigation that resulted in the execution of multiple search and seizure warrants within the city limits of Cumberland during the early morning hours of August 29. This investigation was initiated in response to a series of motor vehicle thefts and numerous incidents of motor vehicle tampering reported in the area. It also involved firearms-related offenses, including incidents in which suspects discharged a handgun at victims. The warrants were executed by the Allegany County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and the Washington County Special Response Team (SRT). The Allegany County Sheriff's Office Road Patrol and the Allegany County Narcotics Task Force also assisted with the operation. As a result, two juveniles were arrested and charged as adults. Both are currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending further court proceedings. A third juvenile was also arrested and is currently in the custody of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.
