Campers and Sentinels gathered Saturday morning at Greenway Avenue Stadium to help raise funds for improvements. High school students and alumni from the class of 74 walked a mile raising just over $2,400. WCBC News spoke with Jon Felten, Secretary of Greenway Avenue Stadium Capital Improvement Fund and said the walk is to raise awareness and funding to continue improvements at the stadium and highlighted some of the past improvements the committee has already accomplished…
"We started off with new field turf and now we moved to a renovated scoreboard, sound system, then an 8 lane running track replacing the old 7 lane track so we could hold state regional track meets here. Then the visitor side and all the handicap accessibility that's built in to the stands on the visitor side."
The committee recently completed relighting of the stadium and handicap accessible seating area that commands quite a scenic view of the area from atop the visitor side…
"There's a little benches separated so you had somebody in a wheelchair you can push the chair up so they can see and then a little bench for the person that was assisting the wheelchair person can sit right there with them."
The next phase of improvements includes renovating the visitor side restrooms for ADA compliance and updating the Press box.
