West Virginians are recruiting Marylanders to join their grassroots effort in opposing power lines planned for the region. West Virginians Against Transmission Line Injustice say the Valley Link Line and the Mid-Atlantic Resilience Line would run power from Pennsylvania through wildlands areas of Maryland and West Virginia to Virginia. Tony Campbell, who heads the group, explained what the high power lines are for…
“These lines are going through to power data centers, basically in Northern Virginia, Loudoun County area. And there’s just no benefit for the state of West Virginia or the state of Maryland.”
Former Maryland State Senator John Bambacus has also joined in opposition. His concern is that leaders including the county commissioners and governor haven’t come forward to voice support or opposition on the projects…
“The governor has taken two different positions. For example, on eminent domain, he says in the central part of Maryland I don’t want people coming in and taking farmland and other land. Up here, he won’t make a statement for or against.”
