West Virginia Flood Recovery Begins

Almost a repeat of what happened in the Georges Creek area in mid-May struck Fairmont, West Virginia over the weekend.  Heavy rains dumped several inches in a short time, flooding the Locust Avenue area near Fairmont State University.  An apartment building collapsed but no injuries were reported. Governor Patrick Morrissey told reporters FEMA is in the area and the collapse continues to be investigated…

   

“There’s been a lot of speculation about that so I don’t have anything conclusory for it but we think that the volume of water up on the roof and the volume of water in the facility combined for a pretty devastating cocktail.”
