ACHS winning bidder of Canada Hose House for $156,000

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council during Tuesday meeting conducted the first reading of an ordinance to sale Canada Hose House on North Mechanic Street to the winning bidder Allegany County Historical Society for $156,000. Canada Hose House is one of Allegany County’s oldest standing structures in one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. WCBC news spoke with Dave Williams, President of the Historical Society – said the organization is excited and grateful to win the auction to acquire this unique building and the opportunity to add the stewardship mission….

Williams said plans for the property include developing the upper floor as a working archeology lab operated by Oxbow Cultural Research and reopening the carriage house doors on the ground level to create multiuse space for history programming, meetings, and community events that honor the heritage of the local volunteer fire stations as a neighborhood hub…

Williams added special thanks are due to Board of Trustees, Boggs and Company and First United Bank for their support in creating the funding package that allowed Allegany County Historical Society to win the auction.
