During the Board Meeting on October 14, 2025, Allegany County Public Schools and Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michael Martirano approved additional administrative changes for the 2025-2026 school year.
James Evans has been named Supervisor of Science. Evans holds a bachelor’s degree in earth science / general science and secondary education and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Frostburg State University. He is entering his 32nd year with ACPS, with 12 years teaching and 20 years serving as an assistant principal, most recently at Mountain Ridge High School. “I am very pleased to be afforded the opportunity of serving as the Supervisor of Science in Allegany County Public Schools,” says Evans. “I will strive to continue the forward progress of science instruction in our county by supporting students, teachers, and administrators in our district.”
Scott Llewellyn has been named Supervisor of Elementary Education. Llewellyn earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in administration and supervision from Frostburg State University. He has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal, with the most recent being principal of Cresaptown Elementary School. “I have been blessed to have been the principal at Cresaptown School for many amazing years,” says Llewellyn. “I will always treasure my time with staff, students, and the community, but I am looking forward to this new opportunity to help all of the elementary schools in Allegany County.”
Heather Peters has been named “Acting” Principal of Cresaptown Elementary School. Peters holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood / elementary education and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Frostburg State University. She brings with her more than 19 years of experience in education, including 15 years as a classroom teacher, and four years as the assistant principal of Northeast Elementary School. “I am honored and excited to join the Cresaptown Elementary community,” says Peters. “I look forward to working collaboratively with their dedicated staff, supportive families, and wonderful students to continue the school tradition of excellence and create a positive learning environment where all students can thrive.”
Shawn Swisher has been appointed as “Acting” Assistant Principal at Mountain Ridge High School. Swisher earned his bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and master’s degree in administration and supervision from Frostburg State University. He has been part of the ACPS system for over 25 years, serving in both teaching and administrative roles. “My years at Braddock Middle School have been truly special, and I am grateful for the time we have shared,” says Swisher. “However, I am extremely excited to share that I will be joining the Mountain Ridge High School and Ridge community. My roots run deep in this area and the opportunity to return to the Ridge community feels like a homecoming and I am eager to begin this new chapter.”
Dr. Kristine Jackson has been named “Acting” Assistant Principal at Braddock Middle School. Dr. Jackson holds a bachelors degree in psychology and sociology, as master’s degree in school counseling, and a doctorate degree in educational leadership, all from Frostburg State University. She has been a school counselor for over 20 years, and is currently entering her fifth year in Allegany County. “I’m incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to serve in this role,” says Dr. Jackson. “I love working with students and helping them become the best versions of themselves. No matter what, I’m committed to continuing my work within our school community – supporting students, parents, staff, and schools – to help build a bright future.”
Devin McGregor has been appointed “Acting” Assistant Principal at Northeast Elementary School. McGregor holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, a master’s degree in teaching from Towson University, and a professional development certificate in school improvement leadership from Goucher College. He has held the position of social studies teacher / specialist in Anne Arundel County and served as a community school coordinator at Westernport Elementary here in ACPS. “I am happy to have served Westernport for over five years through Community Schools,” says McGregor. “I am excited to support Northeast Elementary in this new capacity.”
