Additional Land Conserved for Antietam

December 11th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

A plot of land along Sharpsburg Pike will now be conserved for future generations as part of the Antietam Battlefield The property was significant to the Battle of Antietam as being the location where General Burnside’s Union forces clashed with General Hill’s Confederate forces. This conservation easement will protect the property in perpetuity and allow the land area to convert back to how it looked at the time of the battle. The easement was purchased in-part with funds from the National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund, using Washington County as a pass-thru entity for the procurement of the easement.
