Allegany County EMS records fastest 911 response times in county history

March 18th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

Fox News reports that Allegany County's EMS is a leader in response time.  EMS is one of the most critical services providing ambulances, paramedics, and EMTs during emergencies. When someone calls 911, in rural Allegany County Maryland, EMS responds to calls in an average of under 10 minutes.

In other rural areas across the nation response times are over 14 minutes, according to a journal on Dove Medical Press.

However, that’s not the case in Allegany County largely due to James Pyles, the current Director of Emergency Services.

“To be 533 miles of county roads, 425 square miles, and were getting to you in less than 10 minutes with the system we created,” said Pyles.

Pyles was appointed to director in 2019 and before that he had years of experience as a major with the Maryland State Police and as the chief of police for the State Department of Health.
