Allegany County Joins MD 250 Plans

July 24th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

The planning stage for the country’s 250th anniversary celebration in Allegany County is underway.  Members of the Passages of the Western Potomac Heritage Area and Allegany County Tourism met with the Maryland 250 Commission to discuss themes Maryland will be highlighting in their part of next year’s celebration.  Michele Johnson, Director of the commission, says the themes include history, civics and service, which come from an executive order created last year by the MD 250 Commission…

“Some priorities that are noted include indigenous people and communities, free and enslaved African Americans, youth, new Americans, and life-long learners.  We are also charged with celebrating service to country and community and creating and engaging with cultural assets and visitor experiences.”
