Governor Larry Hogan Tuesday announced nearly $17 million in awards for four state revitalization programs and one federal community development program administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). Of that amount more than $1.4 million is targeted for local projects in Allegany County and the city of Cumberland. The Strategic Demolition Fund will provide $250,000 for a main sprinkler tap installation that will be part of the Baltimore Street reconstruction project. The Seed Community Development Anchor Institution Fund will provide $400,000 for Frostburg State University’s Hill Street/Museum Redevelopment project and $250,000 for the Allegany College of Maryland Theatre. DHCD will also administer $575,000 through the federal Community Development Block Grant program to go toward Allegany County’s construction for the fourth and final phase of a multi-phase regional sewer projecting serving 17,500 residents. In Garrett County, the town of Oakland will receive $800,000 in CDBG funds to rehabilitate the wastewater collection system.
