America’s 9-11 Ride will be coming through Cumberland Friday morning between 8:30 and 9:30. Almost 300 motorcyclists are expected to take part in the 25th annual ride from the Flight 93 Memorial near Somerset to New York City, honoring the memory of those lost in the September 2001 terrorist attacks. Roger Flick of the America’s 911 Foundation tells WCBC that founder Ted Sjurseth did the first ride a week after the attacks…
“One fella chased Ted down and said, “I make $500 and $700 suits for the people on Wall Street and nobody’s coming into my store. Bring people up here to spend money. So, that’s what the first ride did and then we just decided, hey, let’s keep doing this. We’ll help the economy of New York, but it more importantly remembers and memorializes all the people we lost that day.
