Yet another postponement by the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad for the long awaited debut of the Baldwin Steam Engine No. 1309. The refurbish and return to service of the steam engine has been delayed multiple times since the 1949 locomotive was purchased five years ago- the most recent being the cancellation of the highly anticipated July 4th holiday weekend inaugural ride. At the time WMSR general manager John Garner said the hope would be for a late July debut- but that will not happen- and no new date is being announced. Appearing on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” Friday- Garner said that unfortunately there are still mechanical issues that require work- in addition to track repairs. He says that while the diesel engine alternative has kept the tourist train operation running- it’s the return of the steam engine that will provide a major spike in ridership and a tremendous boost for the local economy….

Why are we still putting thousands of dollars into something that is never going to see a return on the money invested. Cumberland is no longer a historical city, just look around, nothing but drugs, and homeless, who really wants to pay money to see that
