On Friday, October 13, 2023 at approximately 8:23 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the first block of Arch Street for a disturbance, possibly involving a firearm. Police arrived and contacted an alleged victim who reported that Sean Smith pointed a rifle at her. Firearms were located in the residence and seized. Officers discovered that one of the firearms was reported as stolen. After further investigation, Smith was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Police learned that Smith was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. Additional information was obtained about a possible explosive inside the residence. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and the State Bomb Squad responded. They determined that the device was not active. Ammunition was also located inside the residence. Smith was later transported to Central Booking where he is currently awaiting his initial appearance.
