On April 27, eight teams from Allegany, Mountain Ridge, and Fort Hill High Schools, and Bishop Walsh competed in the 32nd Annual Envirothon competition at Rocky Gap State Park. The event tested the teams' abilities in the areas of Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Wildlife, Soil and Land Use, Hazardous Waste, Recycling, and Solid Waste Management. At the conclusion of the competition, Allegany High School's team, The Flower Rangers, prevailed as the winner. The Beetles, from Mountain Ridge, placed second. Allegany’s The Helgramites and Bishop Walsh’s Team 1 placed third and fourth, respectively.
The Flower Rangers, coached by Anne Stark, has qualified to attend the State Envirothon event on June 22nd at the University of Maryland Clarksville Research Farm in Ellicott City, MD. Team members include Kinsey Hostetler, Sam Wu, Morgan Trautwein, Daniel Ly, and Colin Sheehe. The Beetles from Mountain Ridge took first in Aquatics, while The Flower Rangers from Allegany swept the remaining categories of Wildlife, Soils, Forestry, and Waste Management en route to first place.

Special thanks goes to the District Commissioner of the Allegany County Soils Department for donating the wildlife pictures for the winning teams and each association that offered gifts for the winners of each topic.

3rd Place: Dr. Eric VanSlyke, ACPS Secondary Science Supervisor; Charlotte Taylor, Ariaya Walker, Madison Ruhl, Andrew Watkins, Ian Kiddy, Anne Stark, teacher; and Adam Heavner, ASCD District Manager
Honorable Mention: Dr. Eric VanSlyke, ACPS Secondary Science Supervisor; Gwenyth Fitzpatrick, Sejal Ghimire, Jake Nowaczyk, Matthew Eanes, William Hao, and Elizabeth Kaylor, teacher.
