On Friday, July 28th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police responded to the 12000 block of Willowbrook Rd for the report of an attempted m/v theft. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the vehicle owner. The owner stated they had observed the trunk of their vehicle open in the parking lot. Upon making a check of the vehicle, they discovered a male subject next to the vehicle attempting to remove the license plate. The suspect was confronted by the owner and the police was contacted. Investigation revealed the suspect had taken license plates from a second vehicle and was attempting to switch them, with intentions of stealing the vehicle. As a result, Brian Rothstein, 34, of Randolph MA, was placed under arrest.
Rothstein was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on $3500 bond.
