Baltimore Street Business concerned about long-term financial picture with 17 months of construction remaining

It has now been one month since construction on Baltimore Street has gotten underway. The $15 million renovation project that focuses on upgrading underground utilities, opening the street to traffic and parking, as well as parklets is exciting news. However, businesses are already beginning to feel the hit in the cash registers, with one store relocating to Frostburg and one other store announcing the intention to close their doors. Business owners and employees are concerned about the long-term financial picture with 17 months of construction remaining. Restaurant owner Bill Shaffer of City Lights located at 59 Baltimore Street, says that his sales are down by 25% compared to this time last year and unscheduled water shut-offs are negatively affecting his business…
