Barton Man Arrested After Assaulting, Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend

On Wednesday at 1:21 a.m., Deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the emergency department of the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for a report of an assault. Upon arrival at the hospital deputies spoke with the 39 year old female victim who advised that she had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. The victim stated that around 10:30pm she picked her ex-boyfriend up at the Pit and Go in Lonaconing and drove to a location on Laurel Run Road in the Barton area of Allegany County.

The female stated that while on Laurel Run Road her ex-boyfriend became enraged and began punching her in the face. The female victim was able to exit her vehicle and attempted to run to a nearby house for help. The female victim stated that before she could reach the house her ex-boyfriend tackled her in the snow and continued to punch her. The female victim stated that while on the ground the male produced a penknife and began stabbing her in the back. The female stated that she was then choked unconscious. The female advised that when she regained conscious she drove the male to an address in Barton and then drove to a nearby residence for help.

The female victim was then driven to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment. The investigation into this incident revealed that the female victim sustained head and facial trauma consistent with being assaulted and had multiple stab wounds on her lower back area.

Pursuant to the investigation Deputies arrested 43 year old Thomas Andrew Custer of Barton, Maryland. Custer was taken before the District Court Commissioner and held without bond in the Allegany County Detention Center.

Attempted 2nd Degree Murder

First Degree Assault

Second Degree Assault

Reckless Endangerment

Disorderly Conduct

Theft Less Than $1,000

Malicious Destruction of Property
