In a surprise announcement Thursday night, Allegany County Administrator Brandon Butler made public, his decision to resign the position at the end of this month. Butler made the announcement at the end of the regular meeting of the County Commissioners. Although neither Butler or the commissioners commented on why he had made the decision at this time, a well placed county source described the situation to WCBC News as a mutual parting of the ways. While on the surface there have been no obvious signs of division, behind the scenes there were reports of disagreements on a number of issues, most notably the county’s pending economic development merger with the CEDC. Butler made brief remarks in what could be his final public appearance with the county- listing numerous accomplishments and challenges the county has tackled during his two plus years on the job- and concluding by saying that now seems like an opportune time to move on…

Finance director Jason Bennett will be named interim administrator.

Well that was fast! We hardly got to know him. Was Butler in favor or against the CEDC merger?
His hiring was trumpeted as the best thing since sliced bread, and during his tenure we had the closing of Westvaco and the CEDC, but have we had any positive things?

Butler did a lot for this area in a short time. He had no control over Westvaco. I would say this has a lot to do with the CEDC merger as everyone is starting to hear rumors.

Not sure why he is upset wit the merger. The city is giving them everything on a silver platter.

This was the plan all along. Paul Kelly will be the new administrator and Jason Buckel will be the county attorney.
