C3I Retrieve Stolen Guns, Safe; Arrest Five in Theft

During the early morning hours on February 16, 2017, the Maryland State Police responded to a private residence on Mt. Savage Road near Barrelville for a reported burglary and theft. Troopers learned that the victim's house had been broken into and numerous guns and a safe had been removed.

Later that morning a private citizen contacted the Maryland State Police to report that they knew the whereabouts of numerous stolen guns. Based on the information and descriptions provided by this subject, the Maryland State Police were able to confirm that these were the same guns that had been reported stolen by the victim only a few hours earlier.

The State Police contacted the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) and requested assistance with the investigation.

Based on the information, Investigators with C3I were able to obtain a search and seizure warrant for a private residence in Corriganville. With the assistance of the Cumberland Police CERT team the warrant was served and numerous guns and the safe were recovered.

Arrested at the time were 24 year old Brett Lee Eversole, Cumberland, 30 year old Bennie James Watson, Chesapeake, Virginia, 23 year old Marcus Tre Helmick, Cumberland, and 19 year old Maranda Chere Pearson, Cumberland.

C3I Investigators later arrested another suspect involved in the incident, 25 year old Cory Francis Yantz, Jr., Cumberland, at another location.

Eversole was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, 3rd Degree Burglary, 4th Degree Burglary, Theft, and Possession of CDS – Not Marijuana.
