Saturday, September 8 at 9:00 AM, Senators Cardin and Van Hollen will participate in a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Garrett College’s new $8.5 million-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Building, which will significantly increase the institution’s ability to equip students with the skills necessary to compete in the 21st century workforce. The senators also will tour the new building and learn more from the college’s leaders about the fresh academic offerings it enables them to provide.

Saturday, September 8 at 2:45 PM, Senators Cardin and Van Hollen will announce a new grant of more than $3 million to increase the safety of Allegany County’s first responders. The federal funding comes via the FEMA “Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program” and will bolster emergency preparedness, provide new high-quality equipment and tools, and enhance efforts to provide adequate staffing throughout departments in the county. The senators also will tour the fire department and discuss with department chiefs from across the county the ways in which the new funding will improve local emergency services.
