January 17th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

After a lengthy negotiation process, a memorandum of understanding to merge the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation with Allegany County’s economic development department was approved by the county commissioners Thursday by a 2-1 vote.  The idea of merging the CEDC with the county actually began in the summer as the two sides along with the City of Cumberland with talks centered on the CEDC’s operational budget as well as  matters such as where the new operation will be housed. Not all of the details were announced, but indications are that the revised CEDC will operate out of offices at Canal Place.  County Commissioners President Jake Shade…

The MOU approval was not unanimous as Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr cast a vote against the agreement. When asked following the meeting why voted against, the commissioner was uncharacteristically tight-lipped concerning his reasons…

Brodie just won my vote. This is not a deal that will benefit anyone in the county. The CEDC’s Kelley and Miller have managed one disaster after another and now they have been given the keys to the county. Caporale has this and the Windmills going against him, I hope he doesn’t get too comfortable in that leather chair!

CEDC is welcome to offices in Canal Place. No one else seems to have any interest in it.
They will proclaim it as a win. Yet more office space is now occupied.

Mac, Canal Place can’t seem to interest anyone in office space except for the Federal, State, and now County Governments. I’m sure they will say they are becoming more self-sufficient, but look at who’s writing the rent checks and you’ll see the facts.

How many times will they trot out the issue of where the offices will be located as “an unresolved issue”? If they cant get that settled in say…30 minutes, what makes them thing they will actually accomplished something of substance?

As I have commented many times in the past…..this will be the BIGGEST mistake ever made by the county for the Citizens of the area…. I know who I will NOT vote for in the future, hopefully there is not a long term contract involved so it can go away with intelligent Leadership in the future election.
Something is REALLY wrong with this picture?!
