County citizens expressed concern for the hazardous driving conditions on Route 51 during Thursday’s Allegany County Commissioner meeting.  Sandy Lippold of Cumberland said she lost family due to reckless driving 38 years ago on the corridor, and the conditions have only worsened…

“Once people know that there are consequences while driving Route 51, it will be safer.  The problem is, everyone that drives Route 51 knows there are no cameras and they know there are no cops.”

Administrator Jason Bennett said they already have a meeting set with the Sheriff’s Department, and MDOT is also coming for an annual meeting…

“This is a state road so it would be a good time to remind them of the difficulties we are having on 51.  So, we can certainly bring it up with them next week as they’re here to highlight it again for them.”
