The Maryland Department of Transportation is pulling another tool out of their highway safety kit to encourage trucks eastbound on I-68 through Allegany County to slow down. Starting at 4pm on Monday, October 6 – drivers on I-68 near Maryland 36 will see left lane closures as a new electronic sign is installed. State Highway spokesman Charlie Gischlar tells WCBC the sign will give truckers advance notice of the descent ahead…
“It’s going to say, “Truck warning – reduce speed when flashing – speed limit 45 miles per hour.” And there’s going to be these beacons on there – LED signals – that will be flashing when the sensor picks up the truck going in excess of 45 miles an hour.”
