County Commissioners Approve Balanced Budget

No rate increases; a slight tax cut and a health reserve fund are among the highlights of the FY 2018 budget approved by the Allegany County Commissioners. During the regular business meeting, the commissioners approved a balanced budget of $138,083,961. County finance director Jason Bennett said the budget is up slightly over last year even though there were some revenue declines. The county saw a $251,000 loss in real estate tax revenue as well as $500,000 less in income taxes, while funding for the board of education is up by $254,000 and county health insurance costs rose by 2 percent, totaling $800,000.
