Maryland has joined a nationwide effort to crack down on illegal telemarketing operations responsible for billions of calls to US consumers.  “Operation Stop Scam Calls” is a joint effort with the Federal Trade Commission targeting telemarketers and the companies that hire them, including lead generators who collect and provide telephone numbers.  These companies falsely represent that consumers have given their consent for the calls. The FTC has a new educational webpage for consumers with advice on how to identify and avoid such calls at ftc.gov/robocallscams
