Cumberland Composite Squadron Competes

May 26th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Earlier this month, the Cumberland Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol competed in the National American Rocketry Challenge.  Team Cumberland was one of 100 teams across the nation that advanced to be among 42 competing in the final round.  Winning 11th place, Team Cumberland will participate in a nine-month NASA high-power rocket experiment.  Captain Crystal Joy told WCBC the students’ project had to go complete several levels…

“The rocket had to carry two raw hen eggs positioned horizontally, reach an altitude of exactly 790 feet, remain airborne for 41 to 44 seconds, and return safely to the ground without damaging the payload.”
