Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade is back in Cumberland

Cumberland’s Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade is today in historic downtown Cumberland. Sponsored by County United Way, Let's Beautify Cumberland and co-sponsors Cumberland Times-News and WCBC Radio. This year's Parade Marshall, Roger Lantz a Vietnam veteran and owner of the M&M Bake Shop we'll lead off the parade with an honor guard from the Cumberland Civil Air Patrol, Cumberland Police Department motorcycle unit and color guard from Boy Scout Troop 89. A number of honored guests will be featured during the parade along with youth organizations, Schools, Classic and hot rod cars. Local businesses and fire departments said Chris Myers, Event Coordinator with Let's Beautify Cumberland.

A memorial service will be conducted on Baltimore Street between Liberty and Centre Streets beginning just after 10:00 a.m. At the conclusion of today's memorial service the parade will make its way through town. 

The parade route will begin on Mechanic Street at the corner of Frederick Street and then turn on to Baltimore Street ending at Queen City Drive. Parade participants will stage at the Rose's shopping plaza near Frederick Street beginning at 9:30. 

Free parking is available at the Cumberland Times News parking lot off of Mechanic Street near Canal Place from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m. tonight said Ed Mullaney, co-chair of Let’s Beautify Cumberland 

In preparation of today's events a number of traffic pattern changes and parking restrictions we'll go into effect at 8:30 a.m. along Baltimore, Frederick, Mechanic, Liberty, Centre, Bedford and George streets. These restrictions will be lifted once the event has concluded before 1p.m. today.
