During the Heritage Days weekend, the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization will be hosting walking tours through the City’s two historic cemeteries. On both Saturday and Sunday, the tours begin at 12 noon and 3 pm, starting and ending at the SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery entrance on Fayette Street. Ed Taylor, President of the organization, says the tour will cover 250 years of American history…
“Some of the gravesites you’ll see is Thomas Beall the founder of Cumberland, Lt. Colonel Moses Rawlings, Captain David Linn, these are all Revolutionary War soldiers. We’ll visit multiple graves of the veterans of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Several World War II veterans, one of them being Lt. Robert Mathias—the first American killed on D-Day.”
