Cumberland Man Arrested for Assault and Child Abuse

On November 20th, 2022, The Cumberland City responded to a residence in the 400 block of Bond St for the report of an assault. Upon arrival on scene, officers contacted the victims of the alleged assault.  Officers learned that an argument had broken out inside the residence between the victim and suspect. The argument had de-escalated and the victim attempted to go to bed for the evening. It was at that time the suspect allegedly pulled the victim from the bed, threw them to the floor, and began to choke them. The suspect then turned directed their aggression towards a juvenile in the home, and struck them in the face multiple times. The suspect then fled on foot prior to officer’s arrival on scene. Officers conducted a thorough search for the suspect and located them at a residence on Central Ave. As a result, Dameon Eugene Lockett, 40, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest for assault. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. Lockett is currently being held without bond.
