The City of Cumberland expects to receive results from the ground-penetrating radar survey that took place last month by the end of the year.  Archaeologist Dr. Tim Horsley took a look at the Fort Cumberland site on Washington Street.  Cumberland’s Preservation Coordinator Ruth Davis-Rogers says though some people suspected tunnels underneath the roads, none were found.  Davis-Rogers did say Dr. Horsley might have found a well…

“He does believe it’s from the fort, and it’s very large.  It was about 8 feet in diameter underneath one of the parking lots.  But then he saw a lot of other structures that he wasn’t sure what was what that kind of raised question marks in his head, but until he sews it all together he’s not exactly sure what we’re looking at.”
