Numerous law enforcement and correctional officers were honored on October 12th at an awards ceremony held by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) at their Sykesville campus. Among those honored was Sgt. Jason Crowe of the Maryland State Police – Cumberland Barrack. Sgt. Crowe received the “Instructor of the Year” award in the non-academy category. The award was presented to Sgt. Crowe in recognition of his dedication to providing “Active Shooter Response” training to both law enforcement officers and civilian personnel. Since the beginning of 2016, Sgt. Crowe is credited with training well over 1,500 personnel in the community thereby closing a crucial gap in the coordinated response between law enforcement and citizens; all of which is vital to mitigate loss of life and injury in these types of violent events. Sgt. Crowe’s work has led to several entities adopting the program to train their staff and to bolster safety protocols.
Sgt. Crowe is a 16 year veteran of the Maryland State Police and is assigned to the Cumberland Barrack as a road patrol supervisor. He is an experienced law enforcement instructor in various disciplines including firearms, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations and active shooter. Prior to his service with the Maryland State Police, Sgt. Crowe served with the Cumberland City Police and is a United States Army veteran.
