Cumberland Woman Murdered, Suspect in Custody

On Friday, at 5:20 PM, the Cumberland Police responded to a private residence on Gay Street after receiving a call about a female subject lying on the floor in an apartment at that location, covered in blood. When first arriving officers entered the residence they discovered the body of the deceased 34 year old resident, Krystal Rose Gallen, who had sustained obvious cut wounds to the head and neck area.

 

            A witness was able to provide the name and description of the suspect responsible for the attack. Cumberland police were able to locate the suspect a short distance away, with obvious blood splatter on his clothing and person. The suspect was taken into custody at that time.

 

            The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) was contacted and Investigators responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

 

            Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence. The scene was processed by Evidence Collection Technicians with the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.

 

            Numerous items of evidence were recovered, including a homemade machete like weapon, believed to have been used by the suspect.

 

            As a result, Investigators charged 44 year old Travis Allen Duckworth with 1st Degree Murder. He is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center, pending an initial appearance.
