The City of Cumberland Water Department and Street Maintenance Division would like to notify the public that Shades Lane will be reduced to one-way eastbound traffic between Oakland Street and the City Limits, with a reduced speed limit of 15 MPH. This traffic adjustment will allow City crews to replace critical water infrastructure and perform pavement restoration. Work will begin Monday, August 18, 2025, and continue through Phase 1 of the project. This traffic pattern will remain in effect until November 1, 2025, unless otherwise noted.

Traffic Pattern:
* Eastbound Only: Vehicles will be able to travel from Oakland Street toward the City Limits on Shades Lane.
* No Westbound Through Traffic: Vehicles will not be permitted to travel westbound from the City Limits toward Oakland Street on Shades Lane.
* Two-way traffic will remain outside of the Construction Zone: Traffic from Baltimore Avenue to Oakland Street and from Naves Cross Road to the City Limits will operate normally.

Potential Traffic Impacts:
* Flagging Operations: At times, flaggers may control traffic, which could cause brief delays or interruptions in flow.
* Parking Restrictions: Street parking within the work zone will be prohibited to maintain safe passage for vehicles and crews.
* Temporary full road closures may be required as work progresses. These will be announced in additional press releases at least 24 hours in advance.
