The City of Cumberland is requesting grant money from the Department of Housing and Community Development Maryland Façade Improvement Program specifically for the areas of Centre and Mechanic Streets.  If awarded, matching grants of up to $10,000 may become available for commercial properties in the targeted area.  Mayor Ray Morriss explained the program recently and the area covered…

Ruth Davis-Rogers, Historic Planner for the City of Cumberland says they will not know exactly how much they will be awarded until sometime in the fall. With the interest in downtown development, Rogers said it was natural to expand into areas adjacent to downtown for further development and the Centre and Mechanic Street areas are seeing more investment happening.  She explained what the grant money could be used for by businesses to freshen up the exterior of their properties…
