Falcons Sweep Volleyball in Friday Night Match

September 30th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

Frostburg State Volleyball team lost 3-0 to Notre Dame (Ohio) on the road Friday night.

Each side traded the first six points to start set one before the hosts took control, using a 10-3 run to go up 13-6. FSU tried to make a late run with scores from senior McKaily Thomson-Moran, freshman Maddie Lewis, and back-to-back kills by senior Beverly Braun, but the Falcons took the final three points of the set to win 25-16.

NDC kept their momentum going into the second set, jumping out to a 6-3 lead early on. The Bobcats were able to work their way back into things thanks to a pair of kills by each of junior AJ Thompson, Braun, and Thomson-Moran, tying the set at 11-11. Notre Dame ramped up their effort, scoring eight of the next nine points to surge ahead 19-12. A couple of Falcon errors gave FSU some late points, but once more the lead was too much to overcome in a 25-17 set loss.

Frostburg earned the early lead in set three, as kills from Lewis and Braun put the Bobcats up 5-3. The Falcons worked their way back to an 8-8 tie, then again took complete momentum during a scoring run that took them to a 20-13 lead. FSU kicked off a comeback thanks to their defense, as senior Hayley Delor and Thomson-Moran recorded a pair of solo blocks, followed by kills from junior Tauja Durham and Thomson-Moran to bring the Bobcats all the way back within 22-20. As the sides went back-and-forth, Frostburg couldn't find the run they needed to tie things up, eventually falling 25-22 in the sweep.

With the loss, FSU falls to 8-8 overall, while NDC improves to 3-8. The Bobcats return to Bobcat Arena to face Wheeling on Tuesday, October 3 at 7 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
