Arthur "Gerald" Arthur of Cumberland passed away on Nov. 21, 2023, at the age 88. Born on May 29th, 1935, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Arthur G. Arthur and Bessie (Brown) Arthur. He was also preceded in death by his sibling, Irvin Arthur. A graduate of Fort Hill High School. He also earned a degree in Engineering Science from Johns Hopkins University. He was a Registered Professional Engineer. Early in his career, served as acting City Engineer for the City of Frostburg, followed by Field Engineer for Allegany County Sanitary District, and also worked under the County Engineer designing various public projects. After 19 years Arthur retired from Allegany County Public Works, having served as it's Director. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. Queen City Lodge #131, A.F. & A.M. will conduct a memorial service at 3 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Tri-State Ministry Center on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, at noon. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until noon. There will be a private interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
