Paul Clayton Herring, 85, of Ocean View, Delaware, passed away on May 5, 2023.
Born on March 22, 1938, in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Neff C. And Eloise (Sharon) Herring. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Herring, and stepson, Rob Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Darlene Herring; his children and their spouses Brett (Janet) Herring, Whitney Herring (Lisa Flowers); stepdaughter, Kimberly Lewis; grandchildren, Brittany (Chris) Fickes and their children, Cole and Isla; Kyle Herring and fiancée, Brittany Hinkle; step-grandchildren, Connor and Samson Lewis; and sister, Vicki Picolo; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1956. He served in the United States Army Reserves. In 1970, Paul began a 34-year career as President of First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union. He served on the board of the Maryland Credit Union League, The Credit Union National Association, and the World Council of Credit Unions. Paul was an active member of several community organizations. In retirement, Paul spent his time in Ocean View, Delaware, and Naples, Florida, enjoying various hobbies and his special companion, Bravo. At Paul’s request he was cremated.
Family will receive visitors from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD. A celebration of life will be held immediately following at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
