Kayla Dodson, a social studies teacher at Fort Hill High School, was recently named a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). Mrs. Dodson was nominated for this honor by a student, in recognition of her outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence within the classroom.
“It's honestly such an honor to be nominated,” says Mrs. Dodson. “It was definitely a surprise, but one that I will treasure. Even though this distinction is wonderful and a blessing, it cannot surpass the joy I have to be able to be a part of my students’ education every day.”
Each year student members of NSHSS are invited to nominate the person who has made the most significant contribution to their academic career for the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction award. This honor recognizes exemplary educators, whose passion and devotion inspire their students to grow and develop as scholars, leaders, and citizens. “Ms. Dodson is most deserving of this award,” says Katherine Loughrie, Supervisor of Secondary Social Studies. “She is positive, caring, and always ready and willing to do whatever is necessary to meet the needs of her students. Mrs. Dodson clearly has her students’ best interests at heart, and her enthusiasm for teaching has resulted in her students being motivated to learn.”
The National Society of High School Scholars is a distinguished academic honor society, committed to recognizing and serving students who embody academic dedication and outstanding leadership in their schools, workplaces, and communities. The NSHSS seeks to advance the goals and aspirations of these students by providing access to unique learning experiences, scholarships, internships, international study, and peer networks.
