One of Maryland Comptrollers Peter Franchot’s dreams has been to see school systems across the state institute financial literacy programs. Franchot has talked to school boards about a mandatory six-week financial education program for Maryland high school students- a program he advocates would cover budgets, credit and other aspects of money. Finally! I wish I had the opportunity to take a basic finance, budgeting and or economics course in high school. At least to understand the basic aspects of taxes, saving and investing or maintaining a budget. We need these courses as we have a population of young people spending and living according to their desires instead of needs.
