Friday night at 8:43pm, Maryland State Police were dispatched to an assault that occurred at the Circle K on McMullen Highway. At 9:11pm, a vehicle left the scene of the Circle K parking lot and traveled south on McMullen Highway at a high of rate speed. The vehicle was traveling south in the northbound lane of McMullen Highway when it approached oncoming traffic and swerved right, traveling off the right side of the roadway, traveled through a yard and struck a tree. The driver was identified as James Eugene Bookheimer, Jr, age 53 of Rawlings. Bookheimer was prounounced deceased at the scene. A crash reconstruction specialist was requested and the investigation is ongoing.
