Governor Addresses Housing Affordability

Governor Wes Moore and Housing Secretary Jake Day announced actions on Wednesday to deal with the state’s ongoing housing crunch. The state says 1 in 3 Maryland families are cost burdened by monthly rent or mortgage payments with 53% of renters paying out more than 30% of their income in housing.  Moore said permitting will be made simpler among other steps to be taken in his executive order…

   

“Make better use of state lands, cut red tape, strengthen partnerships, set clear goals, and reward jurisdictions that lean in on housing.”

The Governor said state land will be used to help ease the housing crisis…

  

“Our administration will be examining all of the land under state control, and we’re going to pick prime locations for new development.”
