On 08/10/2023 at approximately 1:30 PM the Cumberland City Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Helen Street for an assault. Upon arrival officers spoke to the victim and learned they were struck in the face and then strangled by Mark Wharton. Officers observed injuries on the victim consistent with their statements. The victim was treated by the Cumberland Fire Department for minor injuries. Officers located Wharton and placed him under arrest. Wharton was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center for central booking. Wharton was then seen before a District Court Commissioner and held without bond.

Charges – Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree
