John Bartles, Jr. of Frostburg passed away at the age of 89

John Frederick Bartles, Jr., 89, of Frostburg, Md., a beloved father, cherished community member, and passionate entrepreneur, passed away Nov. 20th, 2024, at UPMC-Western Maryland. John was born March 22nd, 1935, in Cumberland, Md. He was the son of John Frederick Bartles, Sr. and Ruth A. Bartles.
His survivors include daughters: Lisa Duvall (Mike), Kelly Borsuk (Scott) and Tracy Cullen (John); Grandchildren: Kristy Brown, Travis and Austin Jones, Mack and Bailey Cullen, Ian Beattie, Nick, Tony and Joey Borsuk, several nieces and four great-grandchildren. He was also survived by his dog and faithful companion, CoCo, who was always by his side and was the love of his life. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Alena (Bootsie) Walker.

John graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1953 and later entered the US Army. Upon his return from the service, he went to work at PPG Industries in Cumberland, Md., where he held many positions of increased responsibility before his retirement. After his retirement, he dedicated over three decades to his successful jewelry business, J. Bartles Jewelry, in Frostburg, Md., where his artistry and commitment to quality earned him the trust and admiration of clients near and far. Beyond his business, John was a man of many interests and talents. He found great joy in every aspect of life, whether it was on the golf course when he was a member at Maplehurst CC or at the card table, where his quick wit and competitive spirit made every match a memorable one. The card table was his place to gather with his friends who had become more like an extended family over the years.

Friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, Md., on Monday, Nov. 25th, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
