The Downtown Development Commission received an update Thursday on the re-design of the Cumberland pedestrian mall. A tight schedule is in place for planning and design- with the hope being for a 2019 start up for construction. Paul Kelly, executive director of the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation said the next step will be to sign a contract with Frederick based Cochrane Studios to develop an overall design- detailing exactly how the newly renovated mall will look once it is opened to vehicular traffic. The EADS Group is working on the engineering level of the project with a focus on utility lines and adding broadband fiber optics.
