December 1st, 2021 by WCBC Radio

On November 30th, 2021 officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business parking lot in the 1000 block of W. Industrial Blvd for a report of an unconscious male in a vehicle.  As the initial responding officer approached the vehicle, he observed the male operator slumped over the wheel with the vehicle running.  The officer knocked on the window several times, in order wake the subject.  When the male subject, identified as Joshua Michael D’Atri, age 40, of Cumberland MD, woke, he accelerated his vehicle striking the officer’s marked Police vehicle.  The officer opened the driver’s door of the suspect’s vehicle in an attempt to stop him from striking the Police vehicle, but was unsuccessful.  D’Atri then ignored the officer’s commands to stop and the officer began to struggle with D’Atri while he was still in the vehicle.  D’Atri’s vehicle then reversed direction with the officer still in the open door.  The driver’s door struck the officer and drug him several feet until the officer was able to force the vehicle into park and stop D’Atri’s vehicle from moving.  D’Atri was removed from the vehicle at that time.  Due to D’Atri’s erratic behavior, he was given Field Sobriety and found to be under the influence.  During a subsequent search, a quantity of controlled prescription medication was located.  D’Atri was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence, Possession of CDS-not marijuana, and Second Degree Assault.  D’Atri was taken before the District Court Commissioner and was held on a $1,000 bond.
