Maryland's latest COVID-19 surge continues to gain steam. The state is reporting its biggest one-day total of new cases in more than four months today, 1,206 new cases. WBAL reports it is the third day in a row with more than a 1,000 new cases and the biggest one-day total since April 17.
The positivity rate remains above 5% at 5.06% and the number of deaths in Maryland since the pandemic started has moved above 9,700 today.
To date, 3,748,760 Marylanders have received their first COVID-19 vaccine shot, 3,377,986 have received their second shot and 280,428 Marylanders have received the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
On Aug. 17, Gov. Larry Hogan announced all Maryland nursing home and hospital employees must get vaccinated against COVID-19 or be subject to regular testing. 656 Marylanders are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.
