Maryland Senate Passes Firearm Safety Bill

March 16th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

Friday night, the Maryland Senate unanimously passed legislation that would make theft of a firearm a felony in the state.  The legislation makes theft a felony instead of a misdemeanor and increases penalties accordingly.  The bill will now go to the House of Delegates for consideration. Under current law, the theft of a firearm falls under the general theft stature in which penalties are imposed based on the value of the item stolen, not the nature of the item itself.
