Mother Addresses Board of Ed on Holiday Abstention Accommodations

A mother of an 11 year old who is in the Allegany County Public School system addressed the Board of Education Tuesday afternoon- expressing concern with how her daughter was treated during Halloween activities in her school. The woman described herself as being part of a Christian family practicing “biblical principals”- and she said Halloween is not a holiday that she embraces nor does she allow her children to participate. According to the woman, just prior to the fall holiday last year the girl’s teacher handled the issue  by way of having her daughter sit alone in the hall way outside of the classroom, while the other students watched a Halloween themed movie. She said her intention is not to call out the teacher or principal at the school- but rather to have better accommodations put into place for students who don’t celebrate or acknowledge the holiday…
